Why this exists
Would you rather is one of the easiest games there is: two choices, no board, no score, and everyone has an opinion. Finding good questions for it is harder than it should be. Long lists mix questions for children with questions nobody would read aloud in a classroom, and the apps that deal one card at a time tend to open on exactly the cards a parent or a teacher would skip. This site keeps both halves in one place: a game that deals one question at a time, and the same questions as plain numbered lists you can read, project or print, sorted by who is playing.
How the questions are written
Every question, all 1,202 of them, was written for this site. None is copied or lightly reworded from another list. A script compares each one with the questions already published on the most-read lists and flags any that share most of their words with one, and checks every question for repeats, for options of very different lengths, and for words that have no place on a family site. The tone was set by a sample read and approved by hand.
The rules are short. Both options should be tempting, so the question is worth a second of thought. Nothing sexual, no drugs or alcohol, no gore, no weapons and no real people. The decks marked for adults are about grown-up life, like work, money, dating and awkward moments, and they are never explicit. The couples decks are sweet, not spicy.
How the game works
The deck is shuffled in your browser when the page opens. Each card shows once, and no card comes back until you have seen the whole deck. Press 1 or 2, or tap a side, to pick. Party mode fills the screen with big type for a TV, a projector or a smartboard, and Print turns the deck into cards on paper. You can switch decks on the home page, or open a list such as questions for kids and play just that one.
What was left out on purpose
No accounts and no sign-up, because a party game does not need to know who you are. No vote percentages, because counting votes would mean sending your picks to a server, and nothing you pick is sent anywhere. No spicy section either. The details are in the privacy policy.
Who runs it
A small independent project, not a company. If a question reads wrong, a page breaks, or a claim here does not hold up, email hello@wouldyourathernow.com. It reaches a person.
